The
Inuit are not a well-known people group. Many people believe they
are of Indian descent, but not so. They are a distinct group of
people with different physical structure and skin color, along with
a unique culture.
Inuit
people live in the extreme northern areas of the world. They live from Russia
to Alaska, on to Canada, into Greenland and northern Europe. They
use the Inuktitut language in all these areas, but with different
dialects.
The Inuit-Field of Northern Canada
Evangelical Mission aims to reach the Inuit of northern Quebec and
Labrador. Our purpose is to see God's work continuing in this field.
Our missionaries are involved in ministries that deal with
children, youth and adults. Ministries include: church work,
children's ministries, prison visitation, school curriculum,
Christian bookstores, hospital visitation, camp work and outreach
ministries.

Puvirnituq, Quebec
Our missionary in Puvirnituq (a.k.a. "POV") has been working with
the local public school to develop Bible teaching material for the
religious instruction class for Kindergarten through Grade 6. This
material is in Inuktitut, the language of the people. NCEM Printshop
has published this material and the next step is to get it into
other schools in northern Quebec (Nunavik).
Great Whale River, Quebec
The Boucks have been working in Great Whale for four years.
Great Whale has two groups of Native people in one area -- Inuit and
Cree. David & Joanna are involved in church planting and hope to see
the
group of believers organize themselves into a self-supporting local
group. This summer (2009) they hope to have a team of Christians
from Timmins (ON) come to present a VBS to both Inuit and Cree
communities.

Riviere-Rouge, Quebec
The Danas minister together with
First Nations Christians (Kwayakotage Ministeries) at Kitigan Zibi
Reserve. They organize special events for outreach opportunities and
hold Bible studies. Kwayakotage Ministries holds a children's camp
and teen camp, and are currently developing a mobile "day
camp" ministry to First Nations communities. They are also
involved in chaplaincy in a federal correctional institution and
halfway house.

Cochrane, Ontario
Noriko is helping establish Cochrane
Christian Centre for Native people. This is a new project with goals
of church services, Sunday school, Christian bookstore and
eventually a Christian school. She also will be working with camp
ministries during the summer. When she finds time she visits
communities along the James and Hudson Bays.

Happy Valley Goose Bay, Labrador
Carl & Laura Sonnichsen started a ministry to
the community at large through a Christian bookstore, and outreach
in the Correctional Centre. The Sonnichsens were living in Nain
before moving to their present location. Carl plans yearly trips up
the Labrador coast to make contacts with Inuit in Nain. The ministry
to the Innu in both Sheshasheit and Natuashish is primarily through
the Correctional Centre. There are ample opportunities for workers
with pastoral and youth skills.

Remember that we are looking for many
kinds of workers, not just career missionaries. Contact us and see
how we can work together to reach the Inuit for Christ.
