SOMETHING "NEW" IN RADIO

So, what's it take to get a Christian radio station going?

*Eileen knew she needed to get right with God. It would mean choices: the first one to turn off her "old songs" and tune into the new Christian station she'd discovered. At 100.1 FM she found the spiritual encouragement she needed. She later called her missionary friend. Eileen hadn't been to church for a long time, but the next Sunday she was there with her family. (*name changed)

Radio wouldn't be considered "new" (though it now includes new computer technologies), but there is something "new" about it on our fields ... Christian radio! Victory FM, the station Eileen tuned in, is one of nine CIAM network community stations recently approved by CRTC.

So, what's it take to get a Christian radio station going? In Prince Albert, NCEMers Walter & Grace Pope, along with a local board, tell of many steps of faith, and God's provision:

First ... the search for a tower location ... but attempts to lease space on a commercial tower failed ... then a typing "mistake" entering GPS co-ordinates led to a great tower location on private property ... but funds for tower & permit still needed ... then a 50 ft tower donated ... but 100+ feet needed ... then someone donated 60 feet of tower (a perfect match!) ... but foundations for tower & anchors had to be set before winter ... then the task of applying to CRTC for license ... but first an endorsement from RM with "public intervention stage" ... but not one letter of opposition! (as long as station remains dependant on donations) ... then God's provision of a small building ... but first attempt to erect tower failed ... then decision to wait for CRTC approval before re-attempt ... but no word from CRTC, and tower construction permit about to expire ... then Oct. 24th, tower raised (just in time for wind test!) ... then Nov. 6, CRTC approval received ... then after transmitter and studio equipment installed ... broadcasting began December 5th!

"We had to take a step of faith each time before God would move us on to the next phase of the project," say the Popes in retrospect. They appreciate prayer as they begin partnering with local First Nations believers in preparing programs.
