Thinking
cross-cultural this summer?
Note: For the summer of
2009 our "NMTC" program will not be operating as
usual.
But if you'd like to be
involved with us in ministry among Canada's First Peoples during the
summer of 2009, please let us know! Here's a couple alternative
suggestions:
-- Consider
serving in one of our Native Bible camps (click
here) ...
-- Consider spending
your summer under the supervision of one of our missionary families in
a First Nations community. If you are a college student, it could
qualify as an internship.
-- And, if our NMTC
program (as described below) is something you'd like to participate
beyond 2009, please write or call us.

A Summer Missions
Program Reaching Canada's Native Peoples
|
 |
NCEM Missionary Training Course (NMTC)
is a practical missionary training program with a difference!
Participants experience
cross-cultural missionary work firsthand. The summer program consists of
"Seminar Week," followed by five weeks living in a Native community,
and concludes with a one-day "Recap."
Seminar Week
NMTC operates from Lac La
Biche, located northeast of Edmonton, Alberta. Qualified staff,
including experienced missionaries, serve as instructors. Sessions
include: "Cross-Cultural Witness," "Evangelism in a
Native Lifestyle," "Winning Over Fear," and others.
Practical workshops are given in fire-building, canoeing,
fish-filleting, bannock-making, and visual aids.
Village Ministry
- 5 Weeks
At the end of Seminar Week
you will be assigned to a reserve or Native community, in teams of
two. Your supervisor (in most cases a senior missionary in the area)
will introduce you to your station. You will be visited regularly to
discuss questions or problems and to receive encouragement and
direction. But for the most part you'll be free to plan your own
programs and strategies to reach the people with the Gospel.
Possibilities include home visitation, children's and youth work,
camp-outs, or simply sharing Christ through friendship evangelism.
Recap
You will undoubtedly look
forward to returning for Recap to share your experiences and lessons
learned. It will be a time of evaluation and warm fellowship, a time
that will really "recap" your summer and possibly give new
direction for your life.
